My Approach
There are many different schools of thought within psychology, and many scientifically validated approaches to treatment. Each school of thought makes a claim about why we suffer, what causes mental suffering, and how to go about fixing it. All of these schools of thought have strengths and limitations, and there is no one size fits all approach to therapy.
Regardless of the treatment approach, one of the biggest predictors of treatment success is forming a warm and positive relationship with your therapist. This is because treatment is likely to falter if you don’t feel the emotional safety necessary to open up and talk about your thoughts and feelings in depth. My approach begins by focusing on developing the foundation of treatment, by fostering authentic mutual trust, safety, and a spirit of collaboration. It is important that you feel safe being vulnerable, knowing that I care and will not respond to you with judgment, blame, or shame. I think everyone deserves to be understood and cared for, and that healing begins when the hidden parts of us are seen and handled with care.
